Chess Box

 

Chess Box is a combined western chess and Japanese shogi set that showcases fifteen different species of Australian timber as well as Japanese joinery.  The set was designed and made as part of an exchange with the Gifu Academy of Forest Science and Culture in Japan and uses symbols on the pieces to help teach and learn to play each game.
