Sand Dune House

Inspired by the abandoned desert houses in Namibia, ‘Sand Dune House’ explores the blurred lines between site and structure.  The featured shade sails, cantilevered balcony and connecting footbridge provide protection from the harsh conditions and ease of access throughout the site.

The model explores use of a number of different materials and model making techniques.  The house itself was created from acrylic, cardboard and MDF, while the site contours were modelled from laser cut plywood which was then sanded smooth.  The shade sails and footbridge were built from soldered brass using MDF templates for accuracy.
